SCAMPER! I know you can!

This week we talked about a brainstorming technique using the mnemonic SCAMPER to engage creative thinking. Check out this Youtube video that illustrates this technique:

SCAMPER: a creative thinking technique

This model helps you generate ideas for new work products (e.g., in this case reading, writing, math, science, social studies, art etc.) by encouraging you to think about how you could improve existing ones.

Next week we will practice using this technique when thinking critically and creatively about our reading comprehension. We will also apply this technique to generating Social Studies inquiry questions. Get ready to extend your learning!

Think outside the box!

Generate new ideas!

Be an innovator!

Mix and match different disciplines!

Participate in divergent thinking!

Hello everyone. We will be completing our yearly DRA (Developmental Reading Assessments) mid-next week. Testing typically takes about two-three periods.

The Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) is an individually administered assessment of a child’s reading capabilities. DRA is typically administered late September and then again in May. It is a tool to be used by instructors to identify a students reading level, accuracy, fluency, and comprehension. Once levels are identified, an instructor can use this information for instructional planning purposes.

Terry Fox Run

CRB is proud to have our Terry Fox Run again this year. Our school run will take place on Thursday, September 29th. Pledge forms will be sent home today. Online donating is a great option and it’s fast and easy too! Your continued support towards this worthy cause is greatly appreciated.

Remind is Here!

In addition to receiving messages via CRB’s synervoice service, class handouts and this website, I have also set up an account using an application called Remind. By subscribing to this free service, you will receive reminders from me about upcoming events and assignments. If you haven’t done so already, you can sign on using the information on this invite: remind-invite.

Best regards,

Ms. Machado

Welcome to 6G!

Virtually everything students need for success at school will be available here in class. Most items, like scissors, rulers, and pencil crayons will be shared in the classroom.  However, knowing that many students like to have their own personalized materials, here is a list of personal supplies students may want to purchase:

– 1 ½ ” binder for Math

– 1 ½ ” binder for Language (this could be combined with Math using a 2” binder)

– 1” binder for Science (rotary class taught by Mr. Chan)

– a combination lock for your locker

– 1 package of #2 HB pencils

– 1 package of blue or black pens

– erasers

– a glue stick

– highlighters

– pencil crayons

– markers

– a thin black fine tip marker (for art lessons)

– a basic calculator

– a protractor

– a compass

– a ruler (30 cm)

– a pair of scissors

– an enclosed pencil sharpener
Thank you in advance!
